Equine Assisted Therapy

Venezuela

The Equine Assisted Therapy project was set up to enable the provision of vital therapy to children with special needs in Venezuela. Equine Assisted Therapy is an invaluable tool for helping these children – it helps develop balance and coordination, develops muscle tone, improves confidence and allows them to form unique bonds with the horses. Working with these horses brings great joy to these children and allows them new activities that they would otherwise not be able to experience.

If you enjoy working outdoors with children and horses then this is a project that you will find extremely rewarding. You will be able to watch the children grow in confidence, work closely with the horses getting to know them, and most of all have a brilliant time!

As well as helping the children learn to ride, you will become fully involved in the daily lives of the horses, and you will be able to experience an amazing outdoor life in the beautiful country of Venezuela.

As a Volunteer on this project you will be involved in:

  • Daily maintenance and care of horses
  • Assisting in lessons
  • Paddock, arena and field shelter maintenance
  • Horse care and management classes with kids
  • Maintenance of saddlery and equipment
  • Maintaining photographic and written records of kid’s progress on daily basis
  • Riding at the weekends (you can have lessons if you need them)

 Accommodation

Volunteers stay in shared accommodation at the farm situated at the top of the valley offering spectacular views. Facilities in the house are all shared, although there are single rooms available upon request. The house is just fifty metres away from the edge of the rainforest, offering a multitude of opportunities to explore!

All volunteers are encouraged to spend time around the grounds, go exploring together and swim in the outdoor pool. The house has a vibrant and friendly atmosphere with plenty of fellow volunteers to have fun with!
