Set in the spectacular rolling hills of South Africa, this is a work experience project in which you will become fully integrated in the working life of a horse safari operation in South Africa. You will become fully involved with day to day life at the horse safaris, which is a top-class operation and one of the leading horse safari operations in Africa. As part of the team you will be able to gain a wealth of experience working with horses and people in such a unique setting and be involved in an amazing equestrian adventure!

You will be trained in all aspects of horse safaris, including how to become a back up ride leader. You will accompany the horse safaris out into the bush as a back up rider and experience riding through game reserves to see amazing African wildlife such as elephants, rhinos, leopards, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, antelopes and buffalo. You will learn all about the local wildlife and about life in the bush, getting to experience both in a truly unique way - on the back of a horse!

 

    

 

Activities you will be involved in at the Project include:

• Lots and lots of riding – some days up to six hours!
• Exercising and schooling the horses
• General stable duties connected with the horses’ care and management
• Riding out amongst wild African animals and through game reserves
• Learning all about the African bush
• Fitness work with the horses
• Becoming a back up rider for the Horse Safaris
• Training in safety procedures involving big game and other wild animals on safari
  

   

 What’s included:

• Telephone calls or internet access

Project Location: The Swazi Safari Adventure is located on a private game reserve in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province, on the borders of Swaziland.

Start Dates: First Monday of each month, Feb - Nov

Duration: Three months
